About PB Kitchen Design

Our Mindset

At PB Kitchen Design, we believe every client has unique tastes, needs and challenges. Your kitchen will be perfect for you because it will be created specifically for you. The PBKD team meets our client’s design & budget expectations as well, by offering a wide range of cabinet options, from cost effective semi-custom to fully custom luxury grade products.

Our Flexibility

Adding touches of personalization is a hallmark PB trait. For years we’ve worked with artisans who create one-of-a-kind design elements based on each individual client’s functional and aesthetic needs. This allows us to think beyond the standard idea of “kitchen” and offer our clients unique materials, textures and details. Solutions they can find nowhere else.

Our History

Past Basket started with humble beginnings as Linda McFadden opened a small retail store in St. Charles, IL – offering unique, artisan-made products for the home. As the proprietor, Linda put her styling talents to work, eventually expanding the shop’s offerings to include fine bedding, textiles, glass, tableware and decorative accessories. Her unique skill set as a formally trained home economist and interior design guru connected with her customers, making Past Basket an inspirational destination.

In 1988, Linda and her husband Dave, a mechanical engineer, recognized a market need for distinctively designed kitchen spaces and finely crafted cabinetry. They knew that the customer base they had grown to love in the west suburban Chicago area had a sincere desire for handcrafted items. So, combining their respective entrepreneurial spirits, they embarked on creating a kitchen design company – a decision that would prove momentous.

Today, PB Kitchen Design is still leveraging Linda’s creative flair and Dave’s technical prowess to develop some of the most impressive kitchen designs you will find. A small team of highly talented and passionate individuals share the couple’s vision, including their son, Dan, who serves as company President.

The McFadden family also operate a sister company, Past Basket Milwaukee – which is regarded as Milwaukee’s premier destination for tableware, bedding, and wedding registry.

Our Team

Debbie Larson

Kitchen design is a natural fit for someone as detail-oriented as Debbie. From the precise engineering of the optimal layout to each detail of an individual design, Debbie is vigilant in her effort to get it right, for each client. While she acknowledges that PB Kitchen’s designs are highly specialized and complex, she sees clients making a more concerted effort to create simple, timeless spaces. Debbie is a multiple award winning designer, most recently honored as a 2nd place winner at the 2017 National Kitchen & Bath Association’s annual Design Competition. She is especially grateful that at the end of each project homeowners are no longer clients but friends.

Dave Mcfadden

After receiving a mechanical engineering degree from Notre Dame, Dave spent almost 29 years in industry as a product designer and later headed design teams for several electronic manufacturing companies. After this long and successful career, Dave got the entrepreneurial bug to do his own thing. Dave’s engineering foundation proved to be a valuable asset as he launched his second act! A multiple award winning kitchen designer, Dave and his team have designed over 1,000 kitchens. Dave continues to find inspiration from outside the confines of traditional kitchens. “When I created the company, kitchens were not designed like furniture. One of our first kitchens incorporated architectural elements from old buildings.

Dan Mcfadden

His easygoing demeanor belies his talent as a designer and his ability to steer a renovation project along its proper course.

Dan was named a global finalist in the prestigious 2017-2018 Sub Zero Wolf Cove Design competition. Top honors were awarded for his 2003 submission in the National Kitchen and Bath Association annual design contest, winning both Best in Category and Best in Show. Past Basket Cares

Being involved in our community is important to us.

Our major fundraising event is the Fox Valley Kitchen Walk. PB Kitchen Design hosts the non-annual but recurring event, featuring some of our firm’s premier kitchen projects located in Geneva, St. Charles and Batavia.  The May 19, 2018 event raised over $13,000 and was donated to benefit Fox Valley Food for Health (FVFFH), an organization which instructs teens how to prepare healthy, predominately organic and nutrient-filled meals for seriously ill or cancer patients.

Over 200 guests attended the kitchen walk, which culminated with a reception at PBKD’s showroom in downtown Geneva. The funds raised from ticket sales, online donations and a silent auction will allow FVFFH to increase its impact within the Kane County and Fox Valley community. Accolades & Recognition

The PB Kitchen Design team has been published many times in over 30 separate trade and consumer titles such as Traditional Home, Veranda, Midwest Living and Kitchen Bath Business. We have been featured on HGTV, used in Architectural Digest advertisements, won many design awards including the NKBA’s top kitchen design award in North America – Best Kitchen; and served as consultants, educators, guest speakers and board members within our industry. While we are humbled and gratified by such support from our peers, what matters most is how you feel about us.

The PB Kitchen Design team consistently proves itself as a leader in the design industry. From the planning, to the final execution of the installation, they follow the utmost attention to detail. The final result is always a captivating and impeccable kitchen design that well represents the luxury image and quality of the Sub-Zero and Wolf brands.

Dan Heyn, President – Sub-Zero and Wolf Showroom, Chicago

I love every single thing in the kitchen. However, what is even more remarkable is how easy you are to work with and how nothing seemed to rattle you. I never saw you lose your patience and nothing was too much for you to handle. . . thank you for a stupendous job.
