Past Basket has been on Houzz for the past few years and we have to say, it’s the place to go to get inspiration for future projects. Whether you are looking for a kitchen torn down to the studs or a new spa-like oasis in your bathroom, Houzz is exploding with ideas.
One aspect of Houzz that we particularly love is the poll section and recently we stirred up some major conversation about formal dining rooms. Some designers are saying a formal dining room is become a thing of the past and as a result, designing spaces in the kitchen that are larger and potentially more casual.
Houzz commenters expanded on the idea of formal versus casual and the results were:
52% prefer a TRADITIONAL DINING ROOM option
48% like to GATHER FOR MEALS IN THE KITCHEN
Here’s what some Houzzers had to say:
“I have a formal DR, and while it is a nice space, if cost were no issue, I’d remodel and annex it into our kitchen. It really just depends on the house…”
“We have a formal dining, but my preference is to have a large dining area off the kitchen. In other words, expand that “breakfast nook” to be large enough for formal dining furniture & save the square footage of a formal room for another purpose.”
“Our dining room table is a disastrous mess after a dinner, a glorious mess! I love our time in the kitchen and our center island can comfortably have 8 to 10 people at it. But a formal dining room has a cozy / closeness to it.”
